Our drive to Rocky Mountain National Park was met with a number of surprises and one huge let down! The terrain The Rig curved around was stunning, Katie was lucky enough to spot a couple of big horn sheep perched mountainside & we enjoyed libations at The Stanley Hotel...this is where things stopped being fun and started getting real.

The Stanley Hotel Katie is not a horror movie lover, but has been haunted by The Shinning ever since Middle School... when she found out The Stanley Hotel was Stephen King's inspiration for that book, she had to see it & couldn't resist ordering a Redrum Punch, while Babbitt ordered a random Colorado Whiskey on the rocks |
The hotel was gorgeous, our bartender looked like he moonlighted for Michael Buble & we were having a wonderful time when Katie spotted THE Jack Nicholson...although Babbitt would not let Katie talk to Jack, we were both pretty convinced that it was him, until Babbitt found the impersonator above, R.L. "Jack" Bullard online a few days later & Katie's world was crushed |
Estes Park We were so JACKED up after our celebrity sighting & the streets were crowed, so we decided to just drive through this quaint town on our way to Rocky Mountain National Park |
Babbitt made reservations for us to camp in the park...our first night was at Aspenglen Campground |
We think elk or mule deer...roaming near our campsite |
The Rig watching the sunrise Our trip started out a little ROCKY when drinking & the altitude hit Babbitt hard... he was asleep by 8:30 p.m., but it did allow us to get up early & take this photo |
Love that hotel!
